John,

This is exactly why Noel didn't want me to give away too much in what we found sorting through all the parts. As they are "Club Stock" parts, PACA members naturally have dibs on what's available. So the normal answer should be, no it's not for sale. However because it's a Studebaker Lark part the answer could well be yes, it is for sale, but I'll have to get back to you on that as well as cost. Whether it fits a '62 Lark I don't know, but if can you access a Stude parts book with the part number it could help both of us? There are also some Chebby and other parts amongst all the Packard stuff and I have another little task to sell some of these on eBay shortly.

The Electromatic clutch gaskets that you ask a better description of are not gaskets per se but the actual vacuum diaphrams that mounts inside the vacuum cylinder and attach to the pull-cable which releases the clutch.

Dave,
for that. When I was giving them a description last night I thought they might be a diaphrams but I didn't want to 1) display my ignorance if they weren't, and 2) it was late and I wasn't sure how to spell diafram diaphram! Another question - Although they still seem to be flexible, being over 55 years old, would the ravages of time have affected their usability?

I couldn't really answer, generally when a piece of rubber actually has to work back and forth repetitively, you'd not want to take a chance with old stock as opposed to a static application, but given the right rubber composition and good storage, sometimes it works out. The item is available as a repro piece; it's also quite easy to get at and replace so if it seems nice and flexible with no obvious flaws, you might want to chance it, especially with the repro at $104 and at that perhaps lot an ideal rubber formulation for that application.

No worries Mal, I am a PACA member, however another forum member informed me that it's not for my car.

Cheers

The classic good news/bad news scenario! Good that you're a PACA member, if you told me that earlier the few remaining grey cells just didn't retain that gem. Bad that it doesn't fit your Lark.

Your just too busy Mal (laughs) You helped me sell my Packard Memorabilia.

Anyway, I purchased one from a Stude club member/vendor today (2hrs ago) and installed it. A$30.

Just thought it would've helped the club to raise funds had it fitted, no doubt if you contact the Stude club of NSW they'll have a buyer.

Who knows, the tag may be worth more than the pedal as a souvenir!!!

Sunday 14th March 2010

Over the course of yesterday, and again this morning, went through the Picasa album of the 697 pic's taken on Friday and deleted 78 which left 619 remaining. Each of these pic's has now been captioned with Part Numbers, where known, or at least with a description although there are a few with just "???????". Have included another two of my favourite parts pic's below. Now to get onto the 3rd and 4th Picasa albums, these contain 404 and 541 pic's respectively although the 3rd album has had 65 already captioned so less than 900 to go!

And I received an email from Wade yesterday after his return from the New Zealand Packard Rally. In the email he included a pic of one of the participating Packards, a '32 V12, which is a former Pebble Beach winner, see pic below. When I catch up with Wade next week will get copies of the all pic's he took during the Rally and will post a link to them in the Shows and Events Forum.

FYI Those "rings" in the first picture look like rear axel spacer shims to me.

Monday 15th March 2010

While working through the parts pic's on Sunday afternoon realised I needed to revisit the parts for a few additional shots. So arranged with Noel to go over this morning, Monday. Needed to gain a little more certainty about what is in some of the boxes, not in detail but broadly. Also took the opportunity to rationalise a bit by resorting some things from one box to another. And those few additional shots? Well the few turned into 90! So with those and the others still to be captioned there are only about 500 to go!

After that, took the opportunity to visit Noel's '41 160 Club Coupe body. It's with RonD who only lives about 10 minutes away from the warehouse. Ron is repairing all the rust issues in the '41's body and any other bodywork required. Ron has a Ford Model A, '39 Ford all original, except for a repaint, V8 Sedan and has recently acquired a '74 Chrysler Valiant Regal V8 318 or 360 (engine size still to be determined) 2 door Hardtop, 1 of only 300 something made. And speaking of 1, Noel tells me his '41 Coupe is the first '1475' of the total of 138 made, if I remember correctly! And speaking of Noel, yesterday he made his first PackardInfo post in this thread, said if I could do it then so could he! And I don't have to hassle him to get his '39 1701 Deluxe Sedan and '41 160 Club Coupe into the Packard Owner's Registry because they've been there for some time!
Noel
