Spud.
I use silicone. On the rubber. Edit.. Silicone grease... Not a sealant... Put the bowl. Up. Pull retainer over Then turn the bowl. Around few times Then start to tighten the bolt. And move it again. To make sure its seated.

I am not a chemist but I do not believe that silicon and ethanol additives are compatible. Better to find the problem and fix it properly than patching it with sealer of any sort.

Not a sealant . Grease. As a lubricate.

I mounted my fuel filter with the glass bowl on top after I saw this and on other sites. The replaceable filter inside may need gravity to stay seated when fuel flows.

Interesting, I would think that the bowl would go on the bottom so that sediment could collect there.
Realistically the forces on the glass would barely be different whether it's upside down or not because the glass is pretty light compared to the compression force needed for it to not leak.

Photos done for marketing have nothing whatsoever to do with reality. The bowl goes down.

And as far as the element staying better seated, my element had a spring between the glass and element which keeps the element pressed snugly against the gasket and seat.

Is right. The spring goes on the both on of ceramic filter And bottom of glass bowl which holds it up. Then filter

Did get it started again, just pressed accelerator twice and cranked it over (thanks Ross for advice). However I did notice a bit of smoke out the exhaust, it's 45° out but seemed a bit too much... hopefully not something seriously wrong. I did check and it was a bit low on oil, still up the dipstick but below Low. Obviously will top off. Didn't run it too long... meant to check before starting but got distracted.
Video is here, ignore how it all comes out one side, the exhaust was always like that. To me I didn't smell anything weird so I don't think it's a head gasket leak, but with the stink of non catalytic converter exhaust I am less confident. youtu.be/3GV1IqhZi8Y Thanks RH, HH56, Don for advice on filter, mine is the same with the spring. Got fuel filter tight enough to not leak + like 1/16 turn so that should be pretty good I think.
