Thank you for the information on production figures!
I was surprised that Packard built so many cars equipped with A/C.
I guess the production figures on the Cellarette option will never be known.
More than likely those papers were dumped out on the floor or thrown in a dumpster during the "last days in the bunker".

Archiveman, referring back to your post about the number of A/C units, I thought you'd like to note that Beverly Rae Kimes did not write ANY of the chapters of the book. She was the Editor of the entire work but the individual chapters were written by others. It's pretty common to call it "the Kimes book" and the like, I've probably done it myself. But she is not the author.

I browsed through pre-war newspaper advertisings. What you see below is an extract from one page of one local newspaper. How to explain that a conspicuous part of used cars offers air condition in 1939?
Different systems, comparable to the Nash Weather Eye maybe?

I think they are referring to better heater/ventilation systems with fresh inlet air like the Nash one. "Mechanical refrigeration" was the one generic (and accurate) term for AC - Packard of course marked the cars as "Air Conditioned"

bkazmer, thanks. At the very beginning the new device was called weather conditioner.
After realizing the value of increased sales opportunities the dealership network started to place A/C advertisings in 1940.
