Packards from at least the mid 30s onward that I have seen had a metal to metal connection as shown this photo from the 55-6 SM. I would suspect someone replaced that vacuum advance with maybe a GM or aftermarket unit. I think many GM cars had the hose connection but it is also possible some upset mechanic got tired of fighting the solid line when he timed the engine and cut the tubing and added a short length of hose to make a flex joint.

Not sure if this will help at all as it was not taken for the purpose but it is the engine of my 1956 Clipper Custom which has since gotten the proper fuel filter and steel line from the pump.

Pulled my 2 gauge clusters off the shelf today. The one in the rear is the original. It has 72,000 miles. The other I bought a couple years ago has 71,000 on it. The speed-o-meter needle is broken on my original.
The date stamp is visible on the replacement cluster (pic 2). I am pretty sure it says JAN 13 1955. Is there anything needing updated on these clusters? I am seeing capacitors or something the back. Also should I install the cluster into the dash now or after the wiring harness is installed and everything wired up?

There is nothing that needs updating in the cluster although you might take the gauges out and clean a layer of dirt off the glass and possibly find some flaking paint that needs fixing up. Also check the condition of the white translucent plastic and the red cellophane in the bright light indicator. If the bulb has been close and hot the translucent piece is frequently burned and the red faded or has a brown spot in the middle.
The condenser is part of the noise suppression for the radio. Generally those do not cause issues but you can get new ones at Napa if needed. Here is a diagram showing where you might find others.

Now is your golden time to clean the gages inside and out and to carefully lubricate the speedometer and the trip odometer reset cable.
Do yourself a favor for long into the future and paint the back of your dash white. Then install your gage cluster and switches. Now you can easily stand at your workbench and wire up the whole thing and make the wires lay nicely.

If I understand you correctly. Wire up the harness to the dash components now. Then run the harness through the firewall (and else where) when I install the dash into the car this winter. IS that what you are saying?

Absolutely. That is how it was done at the factory.
Hook up all your Bowden cables as well then it is just a matter of passing them through the appropriate holes.
