While working on the trunk interior today, I decided to take the license plate holder and light off and touch it up. I cleaned the glass lens, the one with PACKARD in raised letters. The inside was painted silver behind the letters. Is this stock? I was debating cleaning the silver off and painting it red. Comments please?

Yes. It's supposed to be painted silver.

Thanks West. I got the unit cleaned up and repainted, and it is now reinstalled, with the original silver.
