On my 1934 only the starter motor turns when I push the starter button.
Does it engage with a bendix type spring?
I don't see a solenoid. There is just a small box on top of the starter motor.
The car started and ran great but when it arrived by truck to it's new home, it would not start and we had to push it out of the trailer.
The battery may be a little weak, but I should still hear a click. Right?
Has anyone got any ideas for me?

The "box" you see on top of the starter is the starter solenoid or relay. They almost always can be repaired, a competent auto-electric shop should be able to handle it, or there are shops that specialize in Owen-Dyneto units. Or, you can do it yourself if you're somewhat handy. Often, just the large copper contact discs get oxidized and pitted from prolonged use, but they are reversible to give fresh "new" contact surfaces.

If you don't hear even a "click" it's possible the solenoid is OK and the starter switch on the dashboard has failed but that's easy to test, just use a jumper wire to bypass it and activate the solenoid directly rather than thru the dash button.

Other electrical units (headlights, radio, heater) functioning normally?

I thought the little box was the relay, but it is smaller than what I am used to seeing.
The lights are working.
The heater is a hot water, and I don't know if there is a fan, ( I'll check that)
I should hear a click even though the lights are a little dim. Right?
I will try to "Hot wire" it and see if that works.
There are only 2 wires going to the switch. (I think)

Give it a jump and c what happens low battery - bad battery. 6V so u need heavy cables.

Welcome to Packard Info. If this is your first Packard, may I suggest you start at the beginning and that would be your BATTERY. Buy a hydrometer for a couple of bucks and see how it 'floats'. 6 volt battery chargers are a must, so make sure you have one. If there's any doubt about the health of your battery, any garage or battery outlet can perform a load test on your unit and see if it is still serviceable. CLEAN the battery connections and ensure they are hooked up correctly (positive ground) and are tight. When I bought my car, it was hooked up backwards (negative ground, like modern cars) and the ground strap bolts were loose. Once you have determined that you have a good, fully charged, properly connected battery, see what happens when you push the starter button. If still nothing, as the other posters advise, you can move forward to the solenoid/relay and starter switch. Chris.

I did jump the existing battery with a new one, and the lights are lots brighter, however, the starter still only whined only faster.
I went to the solenoid, and connected the new battery directly to it.
The starter still just runs, but no engagement.
Time to pull the solenoid and see whats going on there. Right?

Sounds like you need a new battery.

But as the armature spins, the relay is obviously functioning so that's not your problem. Pull the starter and check the Bendix drive.

Agree with OD on pulling and doing a bench.

Skipping forward to THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL when u put it back in smear some Anti-Seize on the bearing area. Makes life a lot easier on urself or the guy ahead, next time around.
