After about 30 + years I just pulled a
Packard block out of my storage in my backyard
The casting is

11 9 55440971
Now I bought my Packard around 1988
I found the "parts" car very close to the same time
it was about 6 miles from my house.

with no internet and not many Packard people
around I did not know what year it was, and
did not know then about the differences in some
of the body style.
So all that being said, does anyone have any
info on those numbers? Is it a 352 from 55 or
a 374 for 56
I'm soaking the pistons in penetrating oil
so I can take them out.. One I tapped on with
a piece of wood and mallet actually moved.

It would appear the block was cast on 11-9-55 and the 440971 would indicate it was for a 374 engine. You might clean and look carefully at the flat area on the front top of the block to the drivers side of the oil fill opening. The stamped 56xx-xxxx number that should be there would indicate the model the engine was installed into.
