I tried to reply to entries on my post only to find half of the thread had disappeared. I emailed Big Kev, but didn't hear back? Anybody know if he is away or temporarily out of the loop?Chris.

Holiday time so maybe vacation time. He is aware of a similar issue on another thread as I emailed him Monday and got a short response that he would look into it.

FYI, the same thing happened with the hydraulic window post on maybe the same days. At least two pages of Sat and Sundays posts plus several photos disappeared on that one.

Something odd also happened today in the recent forum topics section. With my first check-in this AM there were several headings for weeks old posts visible like someone had found those subjects and added a new post to the threads. They hadn't and on the next check-in about an hour later they were all gone and the recent forum topics and posts was current and more or less like I left it the night before.

Perhaps too many take Kevin for granted.
Is the gentleman, and he surely is, not allowed a life beyond serving us?
Seen another way, perhaps this would be a good time to turn off the computer, get out to the garage. Remember that large, ancient wheeled device with no pixels?

Sorry, I was away for the Holiday. There was some corruption in the Forum database and that triggered an automatic data restore back to last good backup point before the corruption occurred. So this is why some of the recent posts in that time frame disappeared.

Sadly, while this kind of occurrence is extremely rare, it does, and it's damned if you do, damned if you don't type scenario as far as recovery options.

The website backups everything near daily. But it cannot restore individual posts. It can only restore entire database tables.

When there are tables that have interdependencies/linked tables, it has to restore all of those as a set, or more corruption can occur. If it doesnt, then the problem can get worse with newer posts getting added and the indexing and table linkages all becoming askew.

Sorry for the disruption, sometimes these things happen, but everything should be fine now going forward as it's not a systemic issue.

Looking through the logs, it appears the server stack was rebooted (by the data center) shortly before the corruption was detected. So it's possible the forum database was in the middle of a reindexing operation when suddenly something went lights out. So we were a victim of bad timing.

Kev,

Hope you and the family had a nice Thanksgiving.

Lets you, Dezi and I (or any other car lover here in the Land of Lincoln) meet up sometime in 2022 for lunch.

Tom

You had four separate near-duplicate topics created for that V12 bearing. Two in the Pre-War Forum and Two in the Projects Forum.

So I purged three of them.

The provider was having some network stack issues earlier today, but that has been resolved.

Most times they don't realize there is a problem until someone starts yelling.
