Looking for recommendations for transmission repair on my 1956 Clipper near Minnesota or near the midwest. Thank you!

I can do it for you. I am in Pittsburgh.

Unfortunately I am not aware of ANY Ultramatic mechanics left in the Midwest. The closest is a guy in Dayton, but his is more of a "full restoration" shop that can also do an Ultramatic. However I only do Ultramatics.

Any problem in particular, or does it just need rebuilt from age? Depending on the problem it may just need some adjustment or a simple fix.

Parking pawl needs to be replaced and shifter seal leaks. Runs good otherwise.

Ok. That's a transmission-out job but not too tricky otherwise.

Check your pan for clutch disk material (inky black sediment) when you drop the pan.

After removing the C clip holding on the pawl, you can probably bump out the pawl shaft. If it won't go, you may need to remove the other parts of the transmission to drive it out with a punch.

Not much to the shifter seal replacement but you will want to do the roll pin mod when installing the manual valve.

Was this transmission serviced recently? If not, you will want to replace all 4 seals to be safe, with a new pair of gaskets.
