Joey, why yes I did. My buddy has a small blasting cabinet in his gun shop just big enough for the rims to fit. Now I find myself in the same position you were in finding the right tires for the right price.

I'm thinking of going the used tire route for now, until I can get the $ for the Diamondbacks. The car has L78-15s on it now, and they are too big, ride like crap, have lots of cracks, are 30 years old, and there are no weights on them. Plus they have skinny white walls.

I don't know how hard it would be to find some used 7.00-R15 black walls, but they must be some out there. I guess they were used on light trucks.

On my car I bought 215/75R15 from Walmart for like $40 a pop. Cheap tires, that turn my car into a roller. Better tires later once everything else is done.

Really? I've checked Wal-mart's tires, and I don't see anything even close to $40. Could you tell me the model of the tire so I can look it up? I'd like a cheap set of tires that can get me around safely. I'm just tired of my car being on jack stands, and not being able to experience how a Packard drives.

This was a couple of years ago. I think these are Douglas Xtra-Trac. Also you might check PepBoys. 215/75R15 is a pretty common passenger tire. You could even go 225/75R15 which would even a bit taller and closer to the original in height.

Yeah, being that you bought those tires a few years ago, explains the rise in tire prices. I know when I was working at Harley Davidson, some tires DOUBLED in price, and that was just in the course of one year.

The tires I had been looking at for a while are, Hankook 215/75R15's. They are at Discount Tire for $63 a pop. That seems to be the best price I can find, and the most physically appealing tire as well. Others I have found look like they belong on mini-vans. I will give those Douglas a look. Maybe even try my hand at "Homemade" white walls..lol

Thanks Big Kev,

-Garrett

Another solid option for "rollers" is Craigslist. Tires seem to be one of the most common commodities there.

Just sent her to the body shop to get media blasted and repair rusted out metal. I will post some pics when she gets done being blasted.

More bad news. The shop that was doing (was going to do) the work on the packard did nothing and lost or sold the parts I gave them. For me not to press charges they gave me a 65 mustang. So I want to get rid of the packard since I am a ford man at heart. any offer will be considered I know with out the work they were going to do it's a 1000(or less) dollar car.
