I would use the heaviest gauge I could find including welding cable. Six volts need the heavy cable.

I had mine made up at NAPA. Heaviest gauge they had (00 I think it was). Around $20 each. My car starts fine.

Napa does carry the 00 cable, as well as the presoldered connections. Just tell them the lenght, and you can stick the ends on and heat them up with a propane torch. Easy to do and makes a world of difference. I would not recommend the bolt on kind on ends - not as good of a connection.
