I need to remove the door panel on a 1931 super 8. However, it looks like it is held on with some sort of heavy duty staples instead of a wire spring clip. Anyone had experience with these door panels and how to put them back on? SOmething is wrong with the door catch spring; anyone know where to get one?

I don't know about the panel removal, but we just went thru a lengthy episode to find and replace a door latch spring on a 32 - try searching recent pre-war posts and you should find some good information.

PS here's the link to that post. Go back to the beginning on Pg. 1.

Thanks, I will. I just don't want to remove the panel and not be able to get it back on.

G'day W.L.C.,
Through an oversight I missed your first post a few months back so just have to you to PackardInfo NOW!

And a request, could you include both the '37 115 and the '31 Super 8, and any other Packards you have tucked away, in the Packard Owner's Registry here on PackardInfo?

Restoration Supply Co has a range of door latch springs, I found one that worked in my 1929 Packard door latch, it was not identical to the original but I was able to adapt it to work. See page 46 of the online catalogue

Dear WLC:

You are correct they are essentially nailed on (by hand).

If you find that too scary you might try to find an experienced upholsterer to remove and reinstall it for you.

That's the way they did things.

Thanks everyone for your help. I will try to take some pictures and post them soon(I am not very puter savy). I hope to sell my 37 at the Dallas Mecum auction.
