I agree Joey. But that still doesn't explain an engine number on a tag that was stamped and fitted to the body long before the body was mounted on a chassis and the engine was actually selected from stock.

Being the purist that I am, I'd avoid that car like the plaque unless some rational explanation comes to light, the chances of which I think are dubious at best.

Thanks again to you all...you guys are the best. A good friend of mine from the Antique Automobile Club of Brooklyn, Joe Lipton once told me. "When you finally buy a Packard, and you drive into a car show, you are driving class...you are like a celebrity..."

It seems to me that real Packard enthusiasts, like yourselves, are the epitomy of "CLASS".
