I have liked cars ever since I was a little kid. I started getting into them in earnest when I was in college- I bought a 1953 Willys Wagon for a four wheeling project. Much mayhem ensued, I learned a lot about wrenching, and it really cemented my interest in working on and owning old cars.

When I was in college, I started looking at old cars. I've always liked the cars from the mid 30s with the flowing lines, long chrome grill, and suicide doors. I wanted to buy something in college, but I was too strapped for cash to buy anything but a basketcase and knew I wasn't ready for a restoration project.

I'm 30 now, and I bought my Packard in the spring of 2011. Oh, by the way, my last name is Packard, so I was always interested. I have the resources now for a full restoration. I bought a 1937 115c touring sedan. It met all of my needs- classic lines, long chrome grill, the class that comes from being a Packard, even if it's a little one. It even has suicide doors to boot.

I'm in the navy, so I thought I was buying a driver that could be enjoyed for several years before I did a frame-off. I bought the car sight unseen, and I won't do that again! It is a total basket case. While I was on my last shore tour, I got the frame and drivetrain restored, and I'll do the body and interior next time I'm on a shore duty. I've already got my eyes on my next one too! I want to find a restored '51, because I think they're the best looking postwar Packards, and someday I want to buy a '33 or '34. I think those represent the true zenith of Packard engineering. Of course, the true classics cost a lot more to get into, so it will be some time. I also love the '37s; I think they are the best looking Packards ever produced, so I may try to find a few more once I'm out of the Navy and not moving every two years.

I've found this site to be a great equalizer- I get advice from guys my age and guys who could be my grandfather, yet everyone is friendly and helpful. I'll do my part to keep the Packard name alive.

I'm 56. About 7 years ago I got the urge to buy a big 30s era car. A friend of mine had a 33 Rolls Sedan. I decided to narrow my searching to Packards after studying the luxury car brands. i then narrowed it down to an open 32-34. I then found my 32 903 Packard coupe roadster. Although later cars may be better riding, nothing says style like a 32 coupe roadster.

Although I am over 60 now, I was under 60 when I bought mine and getting it was just a fluke. I had never had one or known anyone who had. Mine was on an online auction and both my wife and I really liked the looks of it. Didn't know a thing about them but went for it anyway. Now I have become a loyal fan although I still have other cars including a 1923 Willys Knight. Come to think of it, getting the Willys Knight was kind of a fluke too. But that is a story for another day.

I am grooming two neighbor boys on my Packard. They are significantly under 60. They are 3 and 6 years old. They enjoy sitting in the drivers seat and taking me around our town(imaginary of course). I remember doing this with my DAD when I was 5 and 6 years old. Once my parents could not find me for 2 hours and finally looked down the street at a repair shop where I was sitting behind the wheel of one the cars to be repaired. This was in the 50's so no Police were called. I hope the boys remember the old man and the Packard as they get older. Maybe someday they will get and urge to own a Packard like I did.

My lifestyle doesn't allow for such because I am always moving. Right now I am in Pentagon City, but was close to moving to Canada as well as Russia. I realized the other day that I have lived in more different places than Howard Hughes. However, I can't afford the Beverly Hills Hotel and certainly couldn't buy the Desert Inn. Although when I was in Kansas City there was a casino for sale to whomever was willing to take on the debt burden.

Anyway, I suppose when my life of adventure turns to retirement I will have lots of time for Packards. The biggest problem I have is the ugly politics of the old car hobby. I have run into one too many rotten apples and probably wouldn't tell anybody that I had actually bought something.

I knew a lot of old timers and even they couldn't get along with each other. In fact, I knew so many rich people who couldn't stand each other that I lost interest in becoming wealthy.

Here at the forum things are a lot more pleasant.

Amen, brother.

P.S. I guess I'm not allowed to post car stories on this thread because I'm over 60. LOL!

I am 59, in 1985 I saw a 37 115C business coupe at a gas station in Wilmington Delaware, already a fan off late 30s cars I just 'lost it' over this car. The lines were just perfect. I was able to buy this car from its owner (a member of the DuPont family) for $1200.00, drove her for 20 yrs when I had to sell to raise money for a business purchase, needless to say I was miserable, several years later I found another 115C business coupe for sale. She is mine and shes a keeper. My wife tells me she wishes I looked at her like I do my Packard. Richard
