Check the adjustment of the shoes. You may have to take some drums off to look around. Sounds to me like wear requiring adjustment or repalcement of parts Regards John Harley

John is absolutely right.
This happened to me. It's kind of scary. You press the brake peddle, it feels normal, but if you press more, it pops, drops an inch or more, then holds. One brake shoe if off its position. (mone was at the top of the front shoe) . When you apply enough pressure, it pops it off where it's hanging up, forces it into the groove where it should be, and the brake holds.

PRobably a sludged up sticky wheel cylinder. Since no SYmptom of puling to one side or the other is reported then most likely a rear wheel cylinder. Maybe both rears.

Pulled the front drums off sure enough both the shoes appear to be shifting excessivly shinny area on the metal backing gave it away. After looking the brakes over well I noted the center peg that holds the springs had shifted to the high side causing the shoes to expand way to high. turns out the nut on back backed off the lock washer just enough to cause it to turn. Tightened her down adjusted the brakes went on several test drives problem solved.
Thank you all for helping with advice... God bless
