A friend asked me yesterday if i knew how to attach the wire to the base of the bail type hood ornament. I thought you just spread the wire and snap it on. He said that it would be almost impossible to do. Never having had to play with one - is there a special way to attach the wire?

Phil, I have an extra bail type ornament for the 1937 junior cars. On the underside of the ornament on the RH side is a set screw. Unscrew it and push the wire through the hole and this will allow it to be removed. Installing is easy and the set screw applies tension to the wire to keep it in place. Maybe your friend's ornament is built the same way.
