Not wanting to steal Thomas Wilcox's post on his '34 that I've been following, but what color and how many fan blades should there be on a 901. I've got hubs with 3, 4, & 6 blades all aluminum.

Six fan blades, no paint on the aluminum blades, on a '32 model 901.

Thanks - the blades are a little pitted. I'll clean up the blades and paint the hub and see how everything looks when it is together. Hopefully, it looks good. Otherwise I'll need to come up with another approach.

As you would expect the 1932 Light Eight (900) also had the aluminum fan blades. Picture from a nice (except for those spark plug wires) survivor.

Be careful when trying to make the blades smooth. If you take off to much material, the blade can fly apart, creating a much bigger problem.

If the blades are too badly damaged, you should be able to find someone to make new ones. They are not a complicated piece.

Dumb question. Is this heater house routed thru the tubing for looks, convenience or a purpose?

I've had good luck cleaning / polishing the aluminum fan blades using toothpaste. Nothing fancy, just regular Crest toothpaste.

It cleans the oxide layer off the aluminum and polishes without scratching. I wouldn't grind or file a blade that can't be cleaned up using this method.

You don't want to change the balance of the fan assembly or create a point for a stress crack.

A coat of wax afterwards keeps the bugs off.
