Old papers stuck together

Has anyone got any suggestions for getting old papers that are stuck together, seperated?

I have some old service letters from 1936 or so, but they are stuck together.

I also have a 1956 dealer book, where some of those pages, and paint chips are stuck.

Mike, I have had limited success by using a hot water vaporizer and slowly heating the pages in the steam, then prying them apart with a dull knife. Put paper towels between the pages while they drive. It is difficult to do, so don't expect miracles. Good luck!

You can also try soaking them in water (distilled) in a shallow pan. Then very carefully separate them while they are submerged. You then need to carefully lift them out and place them in a paper press or a similar device of your own making (3/4 plywood with thick cotton (like old t-shirts) and some bricks will work. Change out the cotton every day or so until dry.

Cheers,

Tom
