You will also want to get/make some dust caps for the shock links, like this:




You will need two per link.

Classic and Exotic still has them in their catalog, but I bought out the last of their stock and they weren't sure when they would get more. We ended up making 4 of them from sheet brass. We can make more if needed.

I have the originals but still need to clean them up. It looks like they had a leather washer around them but these are now mostly rotted off. It looks like the one in the picture has some felt washer inside of it, is that correct? Mine don't have anything inside them.

Yes, they had some sort of felt seal under the lip. We replaced ours with rubber gasket material.

We got a touch of warm weather this weekend so I decided to get the cowl off the sedan so I could look into creating a new wood estate wagon body for the car. I started by removing the steel roof perimeter and found that the wood underneath was completely useless. All the joints are rotted out and some have literally turned to dust. Even the wood that looks OK is as soft as butter, I'm not sure what was keeping the car together. I had already made up my mind to put a wood body on the car but this just confirms it's the right way to proceed. I managed to get all four doors off last night after I had soaked the remaining rusted screws in penetrating oil over night. I also managed to remove the windshield and header piece off the cowl but didn't get photos of it. The wood header over the window is rotted out and the screws had rusted to almost nothing making it fairly easy to remove.

I'm sure the design will change a few times before I start cutting wood but this is the direction I plan on going.

Another Sunday with warm weather and the car is down to just the cowl and seat mounting tray. The worst part was removing the drivers seat frame. It can't be removed until a steel shaft is removed from under it and the shaft can't be removed until a screw is removed from the front. The screw head is visible only when the seat is pushed all the way back.

What an awesome adventure. Just spent close to an hour reading your blog. Very nice pictures and narratives. Enjoyed it very much.
