Cracked Head 1935 Packard - 120

A friend in Tucson is planning to sleeve a cracked block in this Packard. Coolant is intruding into the most rearward cylinder hole and I'm just wondering about this kind of fix? Does sleeving work or is another block the better solution?

Thoughts appreciated.

Properly done by someone who knows what they're doing, sleeving is a perfectly acceptable and normally permanent fix. But your thread title confuses me, you speak of a cracked head but sleeving is done to the bore in the block - do you have cracks in both the head and the block?

Terminology once again. Just the bore I believe. No other indications at present of other cracks in the block.

I just had 8 sleeves put in my 384 block. As Dave said, a permanent fix if done by a competent machinist.

However, depending upon where the crack is, it may also be possible to weld it. This procedure requires special equipment and experience.

Good luck to your friend. I hope they find a good solution.
