Properly done by someone who knows what they're doing, sleeving is a perfectly acceptable and normally permanent fix. But your thread title confuses me, you speak of a cracked head but sleeving is done to the bore in the block - do you have cracks in both the head and the block?

Terminology once again. Just the bore I believe. No other indications at present of other cracks in the block.

I just had 8 sleeves put in my 384 block. As Dave said, a permanent fix if done by a competent machinist.
However, depending upon where the crack is, it may also be possible to weld it. This procedure requires special equipment and experience. Good luck to your friend. I hope they find a good solution. Cheers, Tom
