If I mock up an intake and exhaust on a '52 288 block I have will it bolt up to my '54 327 when I want to swap it over?

The 288 and 327 blocks are the same size. The only difference in the cubic inches is the stroke, so the manifolds from one fit on the other.

So what you're saying is the 327 is essentially a "stroked" 288?
So the 327 crank should fit the 288?
I might want to try something similar, if feasible, fuel injected dual turbo stroked 288! (Yeah, I'm crazy) Or might even run on CNG or a shot of nitrous...

Yes. All the 48-54 engines shared the same bore (3-1/2) except for the 1954 "359" engine. The stroke of the 327 was increased from 3-3/4 on the 288 to 4-1/4.

I'm torn between keeping this one stock and dropping a crate 383 stroker in it and horsepowering it to hell. It'll resolve itself nicely, if I dont get in a hurry.
My cousin, a race motor builder, died recently so I'm kinda left picking up the pieces myself. He was going to build me one for another fastback, I was trying to acquire, but that never happened and fate brought me a Packard instead. Old guys return to their youth somehow. ZOOM ZOOM.

I read the 30 pages, only to find a very disappointing ending! What happened?

lots of hot rod Packard straight eights. well not alot. some. check on Youtube. a couple with superchargers. fun stuff. four barrel manifolds are common still. i have one got somewhere. the seniors came with them in 53 on.

if i put a modern V8 in a Packard it would have to be sacralistic as hell. not a common chevy , but 460 ford??

options
1. buy a 327 Packard engine and drop it in. Easy installation and no problems
2. Keep your 288 engine and install a 327 crank, cam, and harmonic balancer in the 288 block and you get a 327. Helps if you have a donor 327 with a cracked block (my scenario)
3. Get a 54 Patrician 4 barrel carb and manifold. Easy bolt on, good for 8 or 10 horse.
4. Get a 55 or 56 Packard V8 and drop it in. Minor mods, but the chassis setup is basically the same in the 55/56 as the 51/54 models.


The first two mods won't affect the originality factor. The third one will, but other Packard guys will drool. The last mod will mess up the originality of the car, but at least it will be a Packard engine and be fairly easy to do, and you won't commit the 350/350 sin. Plus the 350 sin will set you back about $10k to do it right.
