Is it bent?

Took the float out of my carburetor today because the car was running really rough. I saw a little bit of black smoke coming out of the tail pipe while it was idling, and the fuel filter was fuller than it usually is. Is the arm on my float bent?

Thanks,

-GearRat

I don't have one handy to compare but by memory it's bent. I'd guess some fool tried to adjust the float level by bending the whole assembly instead of the lip (visible in your picture) between the pivot pin holes.

It looks like there's a line of pitting corrosion along the top. Make sure it's not leaking also. My fuel level gauge float was similarly compromised. I have the Carter rebuild procedure, and can photograph/post the float if you need it. But there's a part list showing it on this site, I think in the "plates" but I'd have to check. I printed it off for the WGD when I rebuilt but don't know what carb U have. I think "Then & Now" would have replacements.
