is there on the top where the steel meets the chrome to windshield bar a stainless steel cover to cover the gap between the post and the top. See picture
any help is appreciated.

It's unclear to me just what you are asking about. Is it perhaps this piece of chromium trim that the lube sticker is fastened to?

The 55's just had that little piece, not sure why. It looks like the 56 went all the way down the windshield post.

It is that little chrome or stainless piece that is at the top of the upright post. It shows that there is a single screw holding it. The chrome piece that you show is I believe from the 56 like the other member mentioned in his answer. I looked in the parts book to find part # but could not find it.

Don't feel bad, Walt, as I couldn't find it in the parts book either.

I've got decades of experience with GM parts catalogs, but even before that, I spent as much time with my nose in the 55-56 Packard parts books as I did any college textbook (while graduating with honors).

As such, I've been able to find P/Ns for plenty of obscure stuff for the V8 cars and help authenticate a few distinctive, little details between lines, models, and Series, but not this one.

After looking at the model sitting in the front seat, I noticed the part.

I too found the part while looking at the photos. I was really taken--not by the car but the girls "pillars".

Is this what it takes to sell cars??

Also, is the part same for hardtop as convertible?????

I'm not sure about hardtops, I suspect it could be worse, but with convertibles, I can tell you that high-heel marks on the inside of the top are very difficult to remove.

Why is that ebay car sitting so high in the front? Looks like either the engine is not in the car, or the springs are too stout.
