Installing a disc brake kit on the front and leaving the drum type on the rear will require an adjustable valve in the line to the rear brakes to prevent the rears from locking up when applying the brakes. Disc brakes require more pedal pressure than drum type.

Also, you may need to fit another valve in the line to the front disc brakes to keep a small amount of residual pressure on the calipers to keep the calipers filled with fluid. The calipers require more fluid than the cylinders in the drum type. Without the valve, the first push on the brake pedal will take most of the motion to fill the calipers. You may be able to get by without the residual valve if you remember to lightly pump the brake pedal before applying the bakes.

We also would like to add a disc brake conversion kit to our Packard 120 Sedan. It is a 37 Model - do You think we have a chance using the Wilwood brakes that are meant for the 41 and later models?

Hi, I have taken delivery of a Willwood setup for my 56 400. Decided Willwood because of their reputation.

Also, following the advice of many, the BTV is getting tossed and will be replaced by a power system from ABS.
Thanks for the advice on the valves.

Will keep you posted as it comes together and the driving experience once sorted.

Cheers
Russ
