Not sure about the price of forged pistons, but if you plan to actually drive the car, whatever you do, do not leave the EGGEs in.
Been there-done that a couple times, and they run hot for the first 25,000-30,000 miles, if installed at .002-.0025". If I absolutely had to run another set of EGGEs, the clearance would be set at around .005". The problem is, they tend to distort during sustained operation, and scrub the cylinder walls hard enough to heat the motor up.

Yes, that's too much. I've had several made can get a set of custom-made forged pistons with rings, pins and locks to your or my specs for $1,000.
Just a wild guess, but was your $1500 quote from Arias? They make great pistons but are always the highest. jack vines

Good guess - yes, the quote was from Arias.
Obviously I haven't done any comparison shopping yet, but I didn't particularly want to if they were all going to be the same price. Any particular brand recommendation?
