Steering Wheel Issue

Hey Guys,
While driving my car, the steering wheel locked up. Upon further inspection, I found that a round plug that sits on top of the gearshift column had managed to come loose and get underneath the steering wheel. From input from others, I believe I'm missing some type of retainer spring.
Does anyone have an illustration that might depict what is actually there?
Thank you
Steve P

The original thread and his photo of the mostly empty top of the column and shift tube is on AACA forum. The car is a 1940 110.
