Oh. I'm not famliar with the 12's. The sudden reference to the 12's is an assumption that low and reverse are to the RIGHT where 2nd and 3rd usually are???
Most likely he has a automotive 3 spd with side leverss on the trans.. Possible a streight line shifter which was popular aftermarket in the late 50's and later.

....but says it's on a V-12 chassis
I wish I would have taken time to look at it more closely, but there was so much to see at the Centennial. But I doubt it's a Packard chassis; from the size of the front wheels and the stance it's almost certain it doesn't have Packard's independent front suspension. More likely a beam axle and leaf springs; that plus the dual rear wheels suggests to me it's a Packard V12 engine (and transmission?) mounted in a commercial truck chassis that General purchase for the conversion. Haven't yet located my 1999 Centennial roster to get the contact info for the owner of the General but when I do I'll try to make contact. Not that any of this necessarily has anything to do with the original poster's vehicle and he's not come forward with any more information about it. UPDATE: Owner of the General/Packard in 1999 was Stephen Braver. St. Louis, MO. Anyone in the area want to try to make contact and see if we can get some answers? He is not listed in current the PAC Member Directory.
