You should get a Motor's manual for that time period. It will have a lot of general information plus specific procedures for the components that Packard bought from outside vendors . You can find them on the auction site or at literature vendors. Dig around on the service manual section here, I just found the PMCC tune up manual for that era Regards John Harley

I don't know which carb you have but there are carb instructions provided by Packard in the service counselors as they introduced or changed models during the 47-49 period. You might also check out the fuel and exhaust section in the 51-4 SM. The pump is the same or at least very close to the earlier and I believe the 51-2 carbs are also very similar to those used on 22-23 series.

The correct carburetor for you car would have been a Carter WDO-531 SA. That is one model of the WDO series which has many variations but any service guide on the WDO series would be useful; confirmation that you have the right one would come from the triangular brass tag (assuming it's still present) with that number attached to one of the float bowl cover screws. Adjustment/specifications and an illustrated guide to service are given in the 1949 Motor's Manual in addition to whatever information Packard published. If you buy a good quality rebuild kit they also generally come with abbreviated instructions and adjustment information. My recommendation for a source of rebuild kits is Daytona Parts in FL. Go to their website and you can identify the proper kit once you've verified that your car has the correct carburetor. The WDO series were excellent carburetors.

Thank you all! Here's what's on the carburetor. Any difference between the "S" and "SA" designations?
Very familiar with Daytona, having bought kits from them in the past. Reasonable costs and great people to deal with. I'll be reaching out to them as soon as I start the carburetor rebuild on this car. Thanks also for the notes on the service guide section for the carburetor. I will go and find the right section. <a href="http://s153.photobucket.com/user/coliseumltd/media/1948%20Packard%20Custom%20Eight%20Club%20Sedan/IMG_0543_zpsb53693bf.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/coliseumltd/1948%20Packard%20Custom%20Eight%20Club%20Sedan/IMG_0543_zpsb53693bf.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0543_zpsb53693bf.jpg"/></a>
