The Wiki list of land speed records shows the 06 Stanley's record standing until 1924, when broken by a Fiat, which averaged 145.8mph over a mile. Prior to the Stanley's mark, the record had been set by the Ford 999 at 91.37mph in 1904.
I read "Master Motor Builders" about a year ago, and do not recall Packard doing a lot of work on steam engines.

The following photo was waiting long enough to be published at Packardinfo.com.
![]() It orginates from virtualsteamcarmuseum.org, which keeps the related story in readiness. Instead of stating coppyrights its webmaster mentions: "This web page took five to six hours to scan, research, design, and upload. Thank you for supporting the Virtual Steam Car Museum!"

Gerd,
Your tentacles, when the word "Packard" is uttered, appear to find all sorts of related and unrelated Packard artifacts and facts. I'm amazed, ![]()

What a fascinating article! I always marvel over how any object of antiquity manages to survive--in tact or in pieces.
I was driving through some very rural areas of south Louisiana this past weekend and noticed several car junk yards still harboring cars/trucks from the late forties/early fifties, albeit rusting and in sorry shape, but restorable. as always Garrett Meadows
