AL 308 would be the best choice but if the 303s are clean and properly gapped that shouldn't prevent the engine from starting.

Make sure you have a good battery and cables. Just because you have spark doesn't mean you have enough juice in the battery while cranking to have enough power to fire over the engine.

Don't know if this is the car I'm thinking of but if it is then there has to be something that was overlooked. It might be a good idea to check basics again. On the car in question, one thing I don't remember if resolved was the type of new plug wires. Best for 6v ignition is wire core but I think there was a mention of the new wires being carbon. If so, make sure the wires are not resistor wires. 6v ignition doesn't have a lot of oomph to spare for losing anything going to plugs and everything needs to be in top condition including the battery. One other thing is condition of plugs. Even if new, with a lot of cranking without firing the plugs could be sufficiently fouled to not spark.

First thing I'd do after confirming you have a nice fat blue spark at the plugs while cranking and gas in the carburetor is to set #1 piston on TDC on the compression stroke and make sure the distributor rotor tip is under #1 plug wire.
