The associated German-speaking newspaper article reports that the transformation from solid rubber tires to pneumatic tires known from horse carts starts on trucks. The Packard Y-Type truck (3 tons) is a forerunner in the US.

Hi Steve,
thanks for your kind support. Without detail knowledge it would be just a picture-book. Today a very early crane, delivered from Packard to the United States Marine Corps during the war. Permissible maximum weight for the crane is 3 tons, while the Packard is a 5 tons truck. Compared to a modern truck-mounted crane I can't see a big difference. Everything is already at the proper place. sources pic #1 - AUTOMOBILZEITUNG Feb 23, 1919 pic #2 - truck86.net; a Chinese Dongfeng Click to enlarge!

The press congratulated Packard in 1919 on a "remarkable construction" and call it the "perfect window regulator".
