Outstanding idea. Just a single LED or did you use multiple. Anything visible at all when off or just placed inside the cluster below the instrument like the regular bulb and reflection is enough to light up the general face area.

I epoxied 2 small LEDs inside the gauge face. They don't show at all when off.

Great idea! Saves a load of work plus you might not get stranded somewhere with a blown engine and need to be hauled home.
(I'd also like one that comes on just before Wall Street is about to crash).

Another idea for extra protection install a oil pressure cut of switch to kill power to ignition when you loose oil pressure used on a lot of industrial equipment. Sort of belt and suspenders type of engineering. Summit racing has large selection of this type of switch.

Thought about the ignition cutoff - pressure switch to a normally closed relay to coil power.

Phil,
Great idea! Plus the ignition cut-off too. I've used something like this before (certainly before LEDs) on my race cars. Also on some Gen-2 Firebird Trans Ams which could go to zero oil pressure by doing sustained high speed cornering (at ~1.0+ G) even with a perfectly good oil pump. Now I have to figure out where to put it. Craig
