I'm selfishly bumping this to the top - I am sick of looking at this part and not knowing what it is. Can't put it away if I don't know what it is...

Can't speak to all models and all years, but road draft tube clamps are usually just flat band straps, doubt it's that. And I've pulled distributors from the 20s thru the end and it has no likeness whatsover to any distributor holddown I've seen. Ditto for mechanical brake parts.

The part number comes up nowhere I've looked and I continue to doubt that it's a Packard part. But I've been wrong before, and surely will be many more times.

The part number definitely ain't kosher, unless it is a superceded number, which then is no longer listed in the index. My hope is someone will recognize it...as I have NO clue as to what it is.

David,

I've printed out your pic and will pass it around today when PACA has their Chtristmas run to Vicary's Winery at Luddenham west of Sydney. You just never know, someone might recognise it.

David,

Then again they might not recognise it either! Passed the picture around at the Christmas Lunch, before significant amounts of alcohol had been consumed so brains and eyesight were still sharp. There were also members of a couple of other clubs there, Ford Zephers(English Ford) and Twin Lakes Classic Club, so there was a broad range of knowledge from which to draw upon. And the result was? Nada!

Although a view was put forth they might be the pieces which attach to the springs for early Packards with lever shocks with straps between the lever and the springs. This from the owner of a '24 Sport Tourer. However the owner of a '22 Sport Tourer and a couple of '29 626's didn't think so.

Whoa Guscha!! Too much math on Sunday for my pea brain. I agree with your hypothesis on the mount method however. I originally thought it was some kind of shaft support to be attached exactly as you showed. The thought of a mech brake component has been eliminated by O-D however, and I can't find any pictures showing any RHD details.

Could those be welded to an axle and used for a shock mounting point?

Looks to me to be shift linkage pivot brackets. Manual or Auto trans? Something certainly pivots off of it.

Thanks. I just tried the G-Ruler widget and it works pretty well on the pixel dimensions in 10.5 . It's a keeper. Free ruler appears still in beta so will wait on that one.
