I'm coming in from Calif for it. Looks to be a BIG meet this year.

Here are several pictures I took from the show.

I won first place in my class....course I was my only competition. Maybe next time there will be others in my class to compete with.

I was surprised by the turn out of 20s cars vs the lack of V8 cars.

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures with us, and congratulations on your award! Nice to see so many prewar cars. Two of the highlight cars to me were the 12th Series Eight coupe and the 1925 Eight (is it a touring or a phaeton?); note the purplish tint in the headlamp lenses - due to manganese as an impurity in the glass. The lowlight was the 22nd Series Custom 8 convertible in electric yellow but to each his own.

The 1925 is a touring, with original interior. Only modification is a R9 overdrive. According to the owner: trailers are for horses, I drive my packard! He drove it to West Virginia and the Dakotas before, and according to him he never had a packard part fail on him.

Owen....were you there? the way you talk it sounds like you may have been there last weekend. if you were, sorry I don't remember seeing you or talking. wish I had.

I must admit I know squat about the prewar cars to say the least, so most of what I was looking at was a mystery to me.

Doesn't stop me from loving Packard though.

I saw his button talking about trailers are for horses, but if he had to drive my limo with a max speed of 45/50 mph from fort worth to Kerrville, he may have thought differently. I tested my top speed in the limo....I hit between 45/50 and it would cut out....valve float I'm guessing. either that or something wrong with the motor. so my 5 hour trip would have been 8 or so. screw that. good for him though.

original interior....really? kinda hard to believe. could be I suppose.

He drove that 1925 touring from longview, TX. He told me that the interior was original and the front seat was getting bad so he put a cover on it. I'm just repeating him, but the leather looked old but I can't tell if it's 91 yr old cow or a few decades newer.

No, I wasn't there though I'd like to have been, just commenting on the photos I saw. As to your car cutting out at 50 mph or so, it shouldn't! Could be valve float but I think that is extremely unlikely, more likely fuel delivery. BTW your car looked very nice indeed.

As to original leather in a 1925 car, certainly very possible. I suspect it has something to do with the tanning methods of the era (back when chromium salts were used) or something else but you often see leather from that era that remains in remarkable condition. Take a look at the original leather in these two 20s cars, a late Twin Six and a 2nd Series Eight. Maybe we should ask BDC, maybe they just bred better cows back then!

The hide of a bull is thicker than that of a cow or a steer, and today the amount of bulls being slaughtered is very very low compared to the amount of steers, heifers or cows. 80-90 years ago a lot more bulls were being kept than now.
Now the question is did they use cow/steer hides or bull hides for packard upholstery?

thanks for the compliment! I wonder what would be cutting out the fuel at that speed. if I lifted off the gas and fiddled with it it would start to speed up again...but always seemed to cut out at 45/50mph. I could leave the gas pedal down and it would cut out....then slow up with no motor power....then after a bit start to go again and the cycle would repeat.

course I have no idea what rpm I was at. didn't sound that high. it does have the 4.56 rear end in it.

kinda like a governor on a modern car.
