ALWAYS take the side streets! You never know when you'll spot a Packard!

So I was coming back from doing an errand for work in Southfield, MI.

I decided to take the side street parallel to Southfield Rd.

And there was a '56 Packard Four Hundred in someone's driveway...white, black, and pink (coral?).

My only regret is I didn't have a camera with me!

I think it belongs to a member of the Motor City Pacckard club. I believe I have seen it a couple of times.

Whoa! I followed up with MIDan on the location for the car he spotted because it sounded like it was really near my stomping grounds. It's not only a 1956 hardtop, but a Caribbean at that! It's a shame to expose the car to the elements, but on this crisp but sunny day after a snowstorm in Metro Detroit, it did look kinda pretty like that...

Wow! I never got close enough to it to see it was a Caribbean!

At FIRST I thought it was a daily driver...but I don't think it's moved since I first spotted it!

The car indeed belongs to a friend of mine, Larry Mckelvey. He bought the from Australia about 4 years ago.

Didn't Larry have a 1955 Caribbean convertible as well? Do you know if he still has it?

It must have been expensive to ship a car back from Australia, but I can see why he might have wanted to do it. Most of the '56 Caribbean hardtops seem to be Dover White/Danube Blue/Roman Copper, but I think it's a lot more spiffy in this color combo! Can't say I'd ever seen one like that before.

Detroiters will also remember when John Sullivan used to drive his '56 Carribbean in the winter. I remember it at the Deer-bern community center for MCP meetings and once saw it parked front-first into a snowbank in the Tel-Twelve mall parking lot.

Dang! I've been in Detroit for 15 years now, and I don't remember this Sullivan guy or his Caribbean. Can you fill me in with more of the story? Whatever became of the car?

Ahhh, you know John, he owns the burnt grilled cheese sandwich tow-toned orange '34 12 short sedan, lives in Livonia. He sold the Carribbean eons ago, I want to say very early 80s, just after I bought my 400.
