Only way that occurs to me is if the military kept records by vehicle number of the cars they purchased or commandeered. I've never heard of any such records, but maybe you're in a better position than the rest of us to find out.

Found this great pic on the Life magazine Google search.

It is the Secretary of Defense's car dated 1940.

This car certainly isn't Olive Drab Green!

"General Douglas MacArthur was inspecting the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division shortly before the division was sent to New Guinea in January, 1944. The two stars on the front of the Packard vehicle indicate that it was assigned to a Major General and the four star flag on the front bonnet show that MacArthur was a passenger."

We haven't lost the above mentioned pic but its source, which disapeared into data nirvana. Here comes the second attempt, accompanied by another photograph from that gone webpage. This time I nail them down!

Edit: It seems that the page went blank just for a moment. Anyway!

Here is a photo of the body tag from the driver's side cowl and a picture of the original color from behind the Headlight Trim ring. 127" wheelbase. I am getting ready to tear it all apart and start the restoration. I will be going back to the Olive drab green. Hopefully while removing the top layer of blue paint I will be able to uncover any other identifying military markings on the car, so I can put them back on.
