"...The D'Ieteren venture started in the 19th century when it was founded by master coachbuilder Joseph-Jean D'Ieteren. The company started to manufacture car bodies at the beginning of the 20th century, with production being exported. Later, it moved into the assembly and importing of cars and trucks ... The company imports and distributes other makes of the Volkswagen group: Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, and Lamborghini, as well as Yamaha products.

D'Ieteren acquired Belron in 1999. Belron performs vehicle glass repair and replacement. The company operates in Europe and Brazil under the brand names Carglass and Autoglass (Ireland, United Kingdom, Poland), in North America (Canada, United States) as Belron, in Australia under the brand name O'Brien ..."

The museum is closed for renovation. The Volkswagen from the craftsmen parks amidst automobile crown jewels.

Right after entering the museum, the amicable employee said good bye, closed the door and I was alone with the collection. After a leap second I pulled out the camera. You are invited to participate in a digital round tour. The admission is free.
Instead of bothering you with my humble English, please abstract the first part of history from the poster shown in image 005 (click to enlarge).

Randy, my pleasure!

I forgot to include information about the green car shown above, which is one of the first Pierce, the so-called Motorette.

"...The company really became famous, however, for luxurious, high-powered vehicles, including a make called the Arrow. Pierce changed its name to Pierce-Arrow after that make took off, and the name came to symbolize luxury and elegance, in part because the company hired many of the nation's top illustrators to create artistic advertisements for its products..." But now to a very creative period of the company, which made the Belgian coachbuilder famous the world over: the era of bodywork. Enlarge pic 009 to read a bit or enjoy the custom body of the Hispano-Suiza in pastel yellow and lime green.
Don't miss -> these additional photographs, which provide a detailed view of this very car. At places where prowess meets passion a steering gear can be elevated to a piece of art.

The photographic wallpaper behind the Hispano-Suiza consists of many samples of cars with a body, customized by D'Ieteren. I've tried to enlarge some of them. The success has been modest, I admid. One of them, subtitelt "Packard de S. M. Leopold II, 1902" I have photographed but closer inspection revealed "Panhard". And the moral of this story ... don't forget your glasses when you visit a museum.

The next in line is a 1928 Mercedes Transformable Sport. Not the best choice for a slender purse.

The name of this Belgian Excelsior Torpedo is promising something with aquadynamical look. This could have been the reason to design it like a shower cubicle or aquarium on wheels. Well, 92 years ago it might have been the height of fashion in Brussels. On second thought there must be a gimmick behind to fold the windows.
What I have learned is that this brand has nothing to do with the British Excelsior Motor Company.
