I am looking for a set of cam shaft bearings for a 1936 385 ci engine. Is there a substitute off another engine? Has any one made them from bronze bearing material successfully? I was thinking the clearances may be different for a different material. The shops I talked to about babbiting the originals say it is difficult to babbit a continuous round bearing on the first try. Thanks

The cam bearings on my 1934 320 engine (same cam bearings on the 385 engine 34-36) were rebabbitted when the engine was rebuilt a few years back. The vendor doing the babbitt work did not indicate that it was anything other than just a simple routine job.

The last one of those motors I did we found replacement bearings for the cam inserts. However, I don't recall where they came from.
