So if this is such a good fix, why don't I have one on my '51? I've never even seen one of these in picture before.

Only used on the 356 which is quite different internally from the later 288/327 blocks and apparently even from the smaller prewar blocks. There must be enough of a pathway around the valve guides and not that many places where rust can form so that the extra forced air provided by the tube wasn't needed on those other engines.

That air draft tube is also not used on all 356 engines; the 22nd/23rd series 356 engines did not use it.
