Starter not turning over easily and see that Packard Service manuals call for SAE 30 to be added. Another repair book says Graphite so not sure what to put in there. Please help.

Eric

Plenty of possible reasons for the starter to perform poorly. By all means try a few drops of SAE 30 oil (too much oil can be harmful) but be prepared for other possibilities, ignition timing too far advanced, undersized battery cables, poor electrical connections, starter brushes needing replacement, or a starter due for a rebuild.

Thank you so much. SAE 30 would be the same oil I use in the crankcase? NAPA Non-Detergent 30 weight? Would you use 3-in-1 oil or gun oil instead?

I did try a couple of drops of gun oil and it performed much better. How many drops of SAE 30 would you use? Thanks, Eric
