Tappet adjustment

I have the intake/exhaust manifold off of my car right now. It seems to me that now would be a good time to set my tappets. The motor manual says intake at .007 and exhaust at .010 with the engine warm and running. What would you suggest that I add to do them cold? 38 120

Adding 0.002 to 0.003" for cold adjustment seems to be a fairly common recommendation. If I were doing one of the prewar senior 8s (320 and 385 engines) I'd be inclined to add another thousandth because of the uncommonly long valve stem length.

Phil,

Used an additional 0.001" to 0.002" when cold adjusting my '41 120 after rebuild. It was +0.001" on the intakes and +0.002" on the exhausts. Plus this was in 2010, about 18,000 miles ago, and no further adjustments have been necessary. After warmup still idles and runs very quietly.
