One of the Koenigsegg hybrid supercars uses a locking torque convertor and no extra gearing to couple the engine to the final drive.youtube.com/watch?v=glf_k4qGBAA Where have we ever seen the likes of that?
This revolutionary new concept is uh, well, it even looks a whole lot like a 49-51 Ultramatic convertor in its construction details. Much more aggressive vane angles and prettier machining, but the principles and basic architecture are the same. I had to smile. Koenigsegg can do without the two speed and reverse gearbox in your Packard as they have a bit more power to work with, and have electric motors for extra acceleration and reverse.
