One of the Koenigsegg hybrid supercars uses a locking torque convertor and no extra gearing to couple the engine to the final drive.youtube.com/watch?v=glf_k4qGBAA Where have we ever seen the likes of that?

This revolutionary new concept is uh, well, it even looks a whole lot like a 49-51 Ultramatic convertor in its construction details. Much more aggressive vane angles and prettier machining, but the principles and basic architecture are the same. I had to smile.

Koenigsegg can do without the two speed and reverse gearbox in your Packard as they have a bit more power to work with, and have electric motors for extra acceleration and reverse.

The mid Eighties ZF boxes on the Volvo 760 Turbo were also Converter locking boxes. It felt like another gear.
