Can anyone confirm that one even exists? I've been looking for one for about 2 years, I've found 1937 12 manuals, and 1935 manuals, but I've never seen a 1936 Packard 12 manual. I've begun to doubt that one was even printed. Anyone ever seen one?

Certainly there was an owner's manual. Somewhere I'm nearly certain I have a copy of one, I'll try to locate it.

Thanks, I've seen a number of '37 manuals for the 12, and several of the '35, but never a '36. I've a '36 that I am restoring, and had begun to wonder if they just didn't print one, but used the one for the 12th series. The '36 was the 14th series.

Curious what model 36 Twelve you're working on. I've been occasionally immersed helping a friend with a full restoration of a 36 Twelve Dietrich convertible victoria. It's an interesting car in that the patent plate shows it as a 1936 model but the Dietrich (Detroit) body plate identifies the body as being built for 1935. Perhaps the original purchaser cancelled and the car was upgraded to 1936 (primarily a nose change) to avoid selling a leftover. Got any pictures? Of course I'd love to have the vehicle number and the thief-proof number for my database.

1936 Packard 12 cylinder Limousine
Vehicle I.D.: 14th 935 235
Motor No.: 904198
Delivery: N.T. Turner Agency, Newton, Massachusetts, 7/27/36

Is this what you need for the database? You refer to a theft-proof number, where would I find that? I have a 1930 Standard 733 Roadster, a 1940 Packard-Henney 7 passenger closed touring, and a 1948 Super Convertible, if you are compiling a database I'll get the information on these for you as well. Right now, I'm out of town or I'd go get it now. Thanks.

Walt

Here's the data for your database on the '40 that I have. I had it on my laptop.

Henney Data Plate Under carpet in front passenger area: N30N1542
Type: 1805 (Packard 160 148" chassis)
Body Style: 1371 (7 Passenger Closed Touring Car)
Packard S/N: 1371-2213
Engine S/N: 503618
Engine Casting Date: 11-9-39

The engine had a cracked block when I bought it, and we're in the process of rebuilding another, so this engine data would be correct for the original vehicle, but won't be correct when we finish rebuild.

Walt, many, many thanks for the data. Those Twelves are really something; I've had to make do with a lowly 1934 Eight all these years. Perhaps someday if I live long enough I'll get enough data from folks like you to fill in enough blanks to have something write about. The "Thief-proof" number along with the vehicle number is my primary interest and is the large embossed number on the engine side of the cowl, enclosed by triangles at the ends (except for 35-37 juniors). FYI, they started this system with the 6th series and continued it until the end at Detroit with the exception of a few 1940 cars which are a curiousity and in which I'm also interested in.

I'll get you the data on the other two when I get back to Tulsa. As I recall, my '40 Packard Henney is one of those which does not have the number embossed on the firewall. The data plate is an odd piece as well, not what one typically sees on a Packard.

G'day Walt,
Time for me to mount my hobby-horse here and ask an favour. Could you please add your Packards to the Owner's Registry together with pic's, any known histories and how you acquired them?

I will when I'm back in Tulsa and can get full information. Seems the ones I have pretty full information on I don't have photos with me, and the ones I have photos on I don't have full information!

Walt
