Explanation on floor difference: Photo #4 has the wells in the floor filled with wood panels. This is part of the floor extension panel used by Dietrich to stretch the floor and seems to be a "universal" panel perhaps used by many coachbuilders. The wells are for the large jump seat to fold into and have adjustable pivots for same. As the jump seats in this car are the small type that fold out of the divider the wells had to be filled in

Unfortunately when we removed the wood panel fillers the deed to the lost diamond mine was not in them. However all is n ot lost, the real diamond mine is in our warehouse where I'm finding 100% of the NOS parts to make everything forward of the cowl NOS.

We have over 100 NOS hoods, fenders, grilles etc to make your car new again, just call

In photo #175 the floor extension is moved back 24 " or so and is laying on the back floor while we are fitting and fabricating

Here is a better photo of the center section prior to removal. You can see the wood covering over the recesses. On the left side of the photo near the B pillar.

The hunt continues on the 3rd floor of one warehouse. All the parts that we have located are NOS. We still have many to go.

ABOVE GROUND DIAMOND MINE

On my quest to find 100% NOS forward of the cowl. Stalked the aisles and shelves and found NOS in Packard boxes, voltage regulator, oil fill cap, all 4 fresh air vent tubes with screens (3 pictured), 2 so far '52 only hubcaps (used to have dozens, oh well), 3 of 4 vent window frames and handles, interior and exterior door handles. Was looking in the box of senior window cranks, the kind with the cool 3 discs when I said OOPS!!!, the limo has power windows.

Bottoms of the extended rear doors are rusted out, got from our stock of over 100 doors a pair of 51-4 Senior doors. Will be cutting off the good pieces to weld into the limo doors.

I have never done sheet metal welding and feel my time is best spent on skills I know. One of our shop craftsman is doing that work.

There will be no debate on the underhood paint finishes, inner fenders are NOS with orig paint as are fresh air tubes, generator is NOS and starter finish will be the same.
I think we have a NOS air cleaner somewhere.

Every nut and bolt in the car will be original, either from the limo, the donor cars or our used parts. I've sandblasted every one of them and put them on.

Havin' fun

It's incredible all you've done and fascinating watching it all come together. Great job and I'm so glad that you've saved this rare car! Of all the '51 o '54 Packards I've owned, I never saw a wheel cover like that. Was it spacific to '52?

Yes I've got an above ground diamond mine where I get NOS parts just for the asking. What that saves is refinishing, plating, repairing the old parts. A wiper tower has to have the cables removed then have the plater fill the pits, plate it and recrimp the cables. In the case of the aluminum headlight buckets with the rivets rotted out due to corrosion it saves repair and re-riveting. NOS fenders are dead straight and have no rust to repair.

I'm doing all the labor except the floor etc sheet metal work, any parts I don't have I do the fixing and since I work for free it's minimal. I spend about 15 hours a week including raiding the warehouse. Today my big find was the two chrome plated oval head screws that retain the license light lens
door. The car will be as original as I can make it, no shortcuts

It's so much fun seeing it come back to life I'd even pay to work on it, but then I might run out of money

Hi Fred

This truly is the car on which to use all the NOS parts you have. I'm another awaiting its debut.

When you have a chance, would you please show us the rear door shells interior side so we can see how they built the lengthened door structures. Thanks.

Steve

Hello Steve,

I ran over to the shop early this morning and took a few photos of the rear door as requested. A you can see the lengthening was done at about the center of the door's structure/ frame. But the door skin was off set toward the front of the vehicle and was done with a over lapping strip from the inside to reduce the chance of warping upon welding.

Thanks
James
