Graduate paper is complete and turned in, so I spent some time in the shop. I repacked the front wheel bearings and used the opportunity to inspect the front brakes. Pads, hoses and wheel cylinders all looked good. No leaks anywhere and lots of meat left on the pads. I do intend to flush the brake fluid and replace with DOT 5 fluid. I have owned the car about 1.5 years and I don't know the last time it was done, so it is due. Shifting to DOT 5 to eliminate the hygroscopic concern. There was a small groove in the passenger side front drum. Not ideal, but I think it is serviceable. I do need to replace my front seals, both are in poor condition and there appeared to be a small amount of water in the grease on the passenger side. Again, serviceable, but definitely on the list to replace.

I also showed the car at the AACA Winter Meet in Ocala, FL. Thanks to a PInfo member for getting me in touch with the right people! I had registered on the deadline, but didn't send the payment in the same day, so my registration wasn't processed. They were forgiving of my error and were very helpful. I was going to show the car in its regular class but the head of the show actually came by to suggest HPOF based on the condition of the car. We'll see this week if it certified. Not too many Packards, but there was a beautiful 1933 Convertible Victoria. Stunning in dark green paint, blackwall tires and maroon frame. There was also an all-original Twin-Six from the 1920s, but I was too busy chasing kids to get a chance to try and meet the owner or look more closely. All in all a fun show, and really grateful to the AACA for working with me on the registration.

EDIT: Just looked, and the car certified for historic preservation! I bought it to drive and enjoy, not win trophies or awards, but still fun.

i tried to go back on my blog and see what seal i used, but either i didn't replace mine or i failed to mention it and i can't remember either. its been over a year almost.

i do see where i mentioned the seal was a bit buggered up, but i dont see where i replaced it. i dont have any leaks...so maybe i replaced it? idk. if you find out the part number to use, post it please.

and congrats on the acceptance!!

Back after a busy and exciting weekend! Showed the car Saturday at the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee. The Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance was the same day and absolutely fantastic! Pictures to follow.

I also put about 50 miles on the car, and have a few new things to fix or at least things I noticed.

1. The gas tank started weeping from the seam. It looks very solid and was painted recently, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe a failed repair attempt? I don't want to RenuIt if I can help it, just because of the external finish.

2. The exhaust hits the frame on take-off from a stop or rolling stop. It is hitting where the pipe crosses the back of the X in between the muffler and resonator. Anyone experience this or have ideas to fix? I will check the motor and transmission mounts. The clearance is incredibly tight, but it seems like it shouldn't hit the frame.

3. My rear transmission seal is leaking, and rapidly getting worse. I am going to pull the driveline because the front u-joint also feels suspect and that would knock out the seal if it were bad. Two questions here: is there any reason to try and source a NOS u-joint vice a Napa replacement, and how hard is that seal to replace? Normally, I wouldn't even think hard about it, but with the X-frame, it looks like it could be a pain.

U joint. Orielly auto. Lifttime warranty. 36 bucks. Do both at once, same part.

Trans seal. Get one of those hooked seal pullers. Pop off seal....put on new one. the seal... if original style will have a lip on the outside you can get a screw driver under to pry the seal out. Part number may be in my blog... can't remember number but Flack may remember of top of his head.

Henry, just acquired a 120B driveshaft and trans output flange from DAF. He recommended going to you for u-joint part help. Where did you get yours and what is the part number?

I am installing the higher ratio unit in my 115C to go from 4.6 to 4.4. Should help to slow down the engine a bit.

Interested in my old unit for your 138CD?

to mount it on my car i had to knock off one of the cross link bars that hold the caps on the end of the u-joint. not a big deal once it is on the car though. take a pointed hammer and just tap the center of one of those crossbars and the spot welds will break right off and you are golden after that.

It has been quite some time since I've posted, but since I've had the car out a few times I thought I would post an update here.

Still have the u-joints, they'll go in next. I need to figure out the rear transmission seal. I had it all figured out once, but that was a year and a half ago! It's amazing how time flies.

We've moved again, and I have found some great Packard people in Norfolk. Took the car to Gettysburg this summer for the AACA show, which was great. Headed to Hershey, sans Packard, this fall, and looking to pick up a few things.

We're currently renting a house built in the 30s, and the garage isn't ideal! The Packard is currently shoehorned in, which is a big change. Has anyone had any luck with hydraulic or mechanical vehicle dollies? Currently looking at the Eastwood set.

Also - I know everyone puts carpet in the front, but is anyone re-producing the original rubber mat for the front floor?
