advice on 1952 performance

Here is my problem. 1952 327, umatic.
my car seems to run good when I take it out on the road until after about 40 mins or so. When the car is warmed up then I can't seem to go any faster than around 40 or 45mph. it acts like it does not get enough gas. it won't accelerate.
if I hit the aux fuel pump that does not help. also the fuel filter is clean.

I have a new fuel pump. I have new plugs, wires, cap, rotor,
I use ethanol free fuel. this problem has been with me for some time. when I first got the car 5 years ago it ran fine. then I found I needed a new f.pump and I did a tune up
etc.
a few months ago I replace the plugs(autolite). wires , cap, rotor , condenser etc etc. timing set at 6btdc.

a fellow told me to redo the timing to 8dbtdc. The car does run better , but still not correct.

I need to refocus and get some direction. I appreciate your help.

After one of those runs where the car will not top forty, pullout a plug or two and see what color they are--white/lean or black/rich.

Likely your carb's metering rods are not moving or are set very wrong. Or main jets are restricted. Have also seen carbs with the float level set so low the carb had almost nothing to work with.

Oh, and while you have your timing light out, accel. the engine and watch the marks. As you accel to 2k rpm or so the marks should walk up past the pointer quite a ways. When you snap the throttle back to idle, the marks should jump perhaps 2/3 of the way back at once (vac advance working properly), and then the marks should come back to initial setting as the engine slows to idle.

Could it be a soft rubber hose on the inlet side of the fuel pump that collapses when it gets warm???

You also mentioned an aux pump. I'm assuming you are referring to an electric pump. Could that be the problem? Maybe try bypassing it with a short section of rubber hose (remember to use gas resistant hose).

Please describe the symptoms the car exhibits when it won't go faster than 40 mph (e.g. misses, bogs down, etc.).

Could be a coil or condenser poohing out when it gets hot. The black plug bothers me, that indicates a rich mixture if it is sooty or excess oil burning if it is greasy.
