Dear Packard community. It's quite rare, no even impossible to see a Packard on streets in Switzerland. I fall in love with the bautyful courves and the massive apearance and I found a good example in Michigan near the factory. Packard Patrician! After lot of organizational stuff, long waiting period and some sleepless nights the car arrived finally beginning of March 17 in my country. As I never saw the car in person I was just wondering if I bought a pice of sch.. or an all original car I was expecting. It turned out during the first inspection with my mechanic, that the car was fair but some rust and unprofessional restauration was their as well. After some more deepdiving the project raised from a little to minor and now huge full restauration that is just ongoing now.

More to come!

As we have no expertice about Packard in Switzerland I ask your help about matching numbers. Can you give me some inside about engine and ultramatic numbering range fitting my 5452. Would be great to have at least a matching car as I spend tonnes of money into that project. Switzerland is not a low salary country

Don't feel lonely, there are lots of Packards in CH. You should get in touch with Christian Ackermann at Ackermann Oldtimers--he knows Packards VERY well.

Packard body and engine numbers did not match in 1954. That is a nice game for the Chevrolet boys to play.

Your engine number should begin with "M6--------" That tells you it is a 1954 359 engine. That is the number that is stamped on a small pad at the back of the engine above the starter and just below the cylinder head.

The transmission will not have a number, though there may be a casting date on it somewhere. There is also a casting date on you engine block just above the oil pan at the back of the engine.

There may be a casting date on your cylinder head just to the right side of the water outlet. It seems in the photo (can not quite see) that your car has a cast iron head. That is not original to the car but is a very common repair, so the dat on it might not match.

Same color combination of one of my 1954 Patricians that I'm just starting to work on after having it in storage for close to 40 years! I may even start a blog of the work but I wish I had a beauty like yours to start with. At least it looks good in the photos.

If you like absulute authenticity, one thing to look for after you check the engine number is whether it has the original aluminum head as most of the 359s have had it replaced by cast iron versions. Not a big deal either way, though.

Dears, many thanks for your great help. Hope to get more inside with that.

If desired I cam keep the community posted about the progress. It's still a loong way to go but the result is awsome. Actually the car is on the way to complete disassembling for sandblasting. Hope not to find a Swiss cheese!

Regards from Switzerland
