Joan Crawford was quoted to have said: "How can I compete with Norma? She sleeps with the boss!"
Norma was Norma Shearer, a Canadian-American actress and Hollywood star and the boss was her husband Irving Thalberg, a film producer (head of production of MGM at the age of twenty-six). sources image #1 - eBay; item number: 292017420697 image #2 - backlots.net Click to enlarge!

Today -> again Lady Diana Cooper. She was who?
...Lady Diana was a worldly woman who took no notice of Duff's many affairs: "Why should I mind if they made him happy? I always knew: they were the flowers, I was the tree." She left her son with practical advice (31 December 1957): "Drink less for your health and looks and charm's sake, beware of unclean whores, love your mother and sleep deep."... sources quotations: richardlangworth.com images: National Library of France; no copyrights

Hi
"An extraordinary piece of coachwork" indeed! Its a 1932 Deluxe Eight 903 with a Hibbard and Darrin masterpiece. As noted by the caption, it embodies all of Darrin's visual devices and details to render maximum impact, which it delivers in spades. The photo of its marvelous profile was printed the article titled "Insight Into Fernandez and Darrin" by Edward J. Blend, in the Antique Automobile, Official Publication of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), March-April 1988, Vol.52, No. 2, page 6. Steve

Ross & Steve, thanks for providing a background to substantially underpin the glossy prints by facts.
Quote: ...Very stylish but difficult to live with. On the latter point, unlike herself... An assumption not without pitfalls. A certain laxity doesn't unconditionally guaranteed a liberality of mind. Take for example Simone Simon, a French film actress, who never married. In 2019 Babe Ruth, a legendary baseball player who died in 1948 shall be the first to be featured in this thread. But the story that surround the life of "The Sultan of Swat" [Wikipedia] was told many times.

Hi Guscha
Mal beat me to it but it refers to: "George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr. (February 6, 1895 - August 16, 1948)" Monograms were very popular with luxury car owners of that era so much so that custom coachbuilders even kept sample books of styles they could select from to have hand painted on their new car. To paint the monogram, they also employed a skilled calligrapher on staff or retainer to execute the work. Ruth's Twin Six is identified as a 3-35 Series but the coachbuilder is unknown, though either Fleetwood or Schutte are good possibilities. That roadster body is a full custom job, displays all the features typical of custom roadsters i.e. torpedo configuration with boat-tail, small, cut-down doors, short windshield. In general, cycle-style fenders, individual step-plates and dual rear-mounted spares were popular to create a sporting, rakish look in those immediate post-WWI years. Steve

When I received the Duchess, she had a red pinstripe (done by the Earle C Anthony dealership) and the original owner's initials, OKC, for Oscar Kennedy Cushing. When I had the pinstripe added, I also restored the initials with my own (I have 3 sons with the same initials...John, Joey, James.)

Thanks for mentioning Ed Blend - he was a neighbor of mine and used to bring his '34 roadster to the local car cruise.
