After disassembling the transmission I?ve to realize that the last "Restorer" dont installed one of the most importand bearings ... the driveshaft front bearing is complete missing !!!!!!!! not broken or pieces into the oilswamp .. just missing !!!
Maybe anybody knows if this piece is still available in the old style or a newer construction and can give me the correct designation in US inch. The measurement was ... inside the Clutchshaft 33,15 mm (1,305 ") ..diameter of drivinbshaft 25,38 mm ( 1" ) lenght .. roundabout 2 ". The Partsnummer of Packards Parts-List is 124 354.

Sorry, I have no specific knowledge of your transmission. But one of the first places I'd contact for the missing bearing would be George at Olcar Bearing. Very knowledgeable, huge inventory, very nice to do business with.

That is incredible, I assume the car was not driven like that?
From memory that is a roller bearing that was readily available for my Packards of the 1920's - although different models to yours

I have nearly always been able to buy new bearings from local bearing suppliers here in Australia. I would simply take in the old bearings or the dimensions and if they did not have them in stock they would order them in. With very few exceptions, the bearings in the transmission , rear axle, wheel bearings etc are standard bearings still available.

I would expect you would have similar suppliers in Germany.

One of the best sites I've found for locating bearings.

Search by type, mfg.

locateballbearings.com/bearings.html

And addition sources:

brgandeng.co.uk/oldBearinsg.asp

vintagebearings.co.uk/ball-and-roller-bearings

surplusbearings.com.au/

The dimension of the two types of needle bearings are shown in the attached photo. The bearing at the top is the main shaft front bearing (124354). These are from a 1929 transmission. A spacher (136772) is located between the end of the bearing and the main shaft. In front of the bearing you shall also find a Shaft Thrust Botttom Washer (116697) and Shaft Thrust Button (130776) to adjust the drive shaft end play to max .006`` (0.15mm)

Hi Packard Friends,
a special thankyou to DavidM from Australia. He send me a picture of a bearingbox from exact this bearing "made in germany". The Company doesnt exist anymore but I found the company who take over the production of this kind of bearings. They build a single piece for me. It costs 100? (115 USD).
